Remember this one - NOTHING'S GONNA STOP US NOW by Starship?



Some may link this song to the movie, Mannequin, a 1987 romantic comedy fantasy film about a chronically underemployed artist (actor Andrew McCarthy) who gets a job as a department-store window dresser and falls in love with a mannequin (played by Kim Cattrall), who comes to life on occasion, but only for him. Contrary to popular belief, this was not the theme song of the movie. In fact, the song was only played during the ending credits of the movie.
Either way, I remembered it as another great classic song of the 1980s...




The year is 1987 ...

  • The Legend of Zelda was released for the NES in North America...
  • On January 22 of 1987, Pennsylvania Treasurer Budd Dwyer shoots and kills himself with a revolver during a televised press conference after being found guilty on charges of bribery, fraud, conspiracy, and racketeering.
  • October 15–October 16 – Great Storm of 1987: Hurricane-force winds hit much of southern England, killing 23 people.
  • The dusky seaside sparrow becomes extinct.

As for music:
  • MTV Europe was launched. The first video played is "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits,
  • Alice Cooper almost died on stage when one of the props, the Gallows, malfunctioned,
  • Michael Jackson released Bad, the first studio album after Thriller, the best-selling album of all time. The album would produce five number one singles in the USA,
  • Def Leppard released Hysteria, the longest rock album ever released as a single LP or cassette,
  • Reggae musician Peter Tosh is murdered during a robbery in his home,
  • George Michael releases his first solo studio album, Faith, which would win the Grammy Award for album of the year and sell 11 million copies in USA alone,
  • and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" is released by the American Rock band, Starship.
